Turn lecture notes into retrieval practice

Start with one lecture and its learning objectives. A useful revision set should tell you what you understand and where you still need to return to the source. Keeping each question attached to a page or section makes corrections much easier later.

Work through it

1. Divide the lecture into five or six ideas. Write one question per idea before asking for an explanation. Separate definitions from questions that require a reason, comparison or calculation.
2. Answer with the notes closed. Mark an answer as complete, partial or missed, then reopen the original material and correct the missing piece in a different paragraph.
3. If you use Ace for a draft, provide the relevant source and ask for the reference next to each proposed answer. Remove questions whose answer is absent from your material.
