Notes and writing
Review an email draft before sending
Check the audience, commitments and attachments before an email leaves your hands.
An email draft can be polished and still be wrong about a deadline or promise. Write down the intended recipient and the exact outcome you want before drafting. Use the minimum context needed and keep sensitive material out of examples that do not require it.
Work through it
- List the request, deadline and facts that the recipient needs. Mark tentative dates and prices as tentative in the source notes.
- Draft a subject that describes the action. In the body, separate the current situation from what you are asking the recipient to do next.
- Read the draft as the recipient. Confirm the address, sender, amounts, dates, links and attachment contents. Review the final text in the actual compose window before sending.
Check your result
- The correct person is addressed.
- Every promise is intentional.
- Referenced attachments are present and are the intended versions.
